Representation
The Write Factor offers a Representation service where we approach publishing companies or Literary Agents on your behalf, with a view to securing a publishing contract for your work. Through our contacts in the industry and our extensive database of publishing houses and editors, we will endeavour to find the right publisher for you.
It is important to note that The Write Factor does not act as a ‘Literary Agent’ – Literary Agents offer quite different services: they take a limited number of authors who they mentor and support. They will negotiate the entire contract with the publisher and handle your fees and royalties and any other rights. Literary Agents usually take a percentage of your contracted fees (12-15% is the norm). However, Literary Agents are often very selective and it is not always easy to secure their services – an initial submission via The Write Factor will reassure them that the work in question is of a quality worthy of their attention.
But times are changing and publishers – especially the smaller, independent ones – do not automatically expect authors to have a Literary Agent these days and will often be happy to negotiate terms directly with an author or their representative. This is where our services can be useful, as using our industry expertise and knowledge, we may be able to place you with a reputable publisher specific to your genre: something writers often find difficult to do on their own (and in any case, usually prefer to spend their time writing novels rather than submissions!)
We charge a one-off fee for this service. We do not take a percentage of your publishing contract or a cut of your royalties – we simply find the right publisher for your work* and then pass you on to their own professional team.
- Please note that The Write Factor cannot guarantee that we will be able to place your work with a publisher. TWF reserves the right to refuse to act as your Representative if our team feel your work is not of good enough quality.
Representation Fee
Fees for Representation to Literary Agents or Publishers are negotiable and cover the following services:
Reading and assessment of manuscript
Editing and proofreading where necessary
Evaluation of the potential market and audience for the work
Researching four potential Publishers/Literary Agents for the work
Preparation of Submissions Package
All negotiations and facilitation necessary leading to a meeting with the author and potential publisher
